“The Chevrolet Cruze’s base four-cylinder engine isn’t the most powerful in the class, but test drivers say its optional turbocharged engine has more get up and go for highway driving. The Cruze comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but a six-speed automatic is optional. Test drivers say the automatic doesn’t transition quickly between gears. Despite these complaints, the Cruze has a comfortable ride, precise steering and good fuel economy ratings. With the base engine, the Cruze gets 22/35 mpg city/highway, though Eco models can get up to 42 mpg on the highway, which is excellent for this category. Regardless of whether you choose the Cruze Eco or the base model, each version surpasses many of its competitors with an above-average safety score.”
